Step 1. Introduction

T: Today is Tuesday, the 12th of October. Yesterday was Monday. What date was yesterday?

Ss: the 11th of October.

T: Yesterday was the 11th of Oct.(write it on the blackboard)

T: What holiday is from the 1st of Oct. to the 7th of Oct.?

Ss: National Day holiday. (write it on the blackboard)

T: Yes, it was National Day Holiday last week.

  I stayed at home on National Day. I cooked a lot of nice food for my family.

  What did you do on National Day (last week)?

Ss tell what they did on National day. When they talk, teacher should remind them of the correct past form orally.

T: Hush! It was the National Day holiday last week. Today is the first day of school after the holiday. Helen goes to school early. She meets Nancy in the school playground before class.(Introduction of the 1st paragraph). Now listen to the tape and tell me: what did Helen and Nancy do last week?

Teacher explains the new word “before” while introducing.

 Step 2. Presentation

Divide the class into a boy group and a girl group. Each group has a leader. Give the leader plenty of flags to count the questions which are correctly answered. That is to say each right answer deserves a flag. Statistics the flags and reward the better group after class.

1.      Listen to the 1st part: What did Nancy do last week?

a.      CAI shows the Exercise before listening.( tick the correct answer)

B.      Did she like the film?________ (a. Yes, she did. b. No, she didn’t )

b. Read the exercise above, then listen.

2.      Listen to the 2nd part: What did Helen do?

a.      CAI shows the exercise before listening. (True or False)

1.      Helen visited the farm with her family.(   )

2.      On Tuesday, they watered trees and pulled up carrots.(    )

3.      They milked cows. That was fun!(    )

4.      They didn’t collect eggs.(    )

5.      There were some fruit trees on the farm.(    )

6.      They picked a lot of oranges and tasted them.(    )

b.      Read the sentences above, then listen and judge.

c.       Check the answers by listening again.

d.      Read the new phrases aloud.

3.      Open the book and read through the passage.(self study)

4.      Read in chorus.

5.      Teacher could help the students to classify the past forms of the verbs, and then read them!

Step 3 Consolidation

1.      Read the 1st paragraph fluently.

2.      Do exercise on page 39.

3.      Students tell in groups of four: What did Nancy do? What did Helen do? (retell the dialogue little by little)

4.      in order to help the students understand the passage better, underline some key phrases.

  Step 4. Use

   1 Count the flags each group’s got, praise the better group.
