溧阳的学前教育发展迅速。全市幼教工作者爱岗敬业，奋发进取，以幼儿良好行为习惯的培养和早期潜能的开发为重点，着力提高0－6岁儿童受教育水平，积极探索多渠道筹资、多样化办园的路子，形成了规范化、高质量、有特色的幼儿教育体系。全市有各类幼儿园26所，在园幼儿16050人，其中市实验幼儿园、竹箦中心幼儿园等18所幼儿园为“江苏省示范性实验幼儿园”。2001年以来，全市学前三年教育普及率都在96%以上。
溧阳的义务教育水平较高。通过在经费投入、设施建设和师资配备方面加强统筹协调，义务教育得到均衡发展。全市现有完全小学41所，初中学校33所，其中九年一贯制实验学校2所，少体校1所，市燕山中学、南渡初中等8所学校是江苏省实施教育现代化示范初中，溧阳市实验小学、竹箦中心小学等15所学校是江苏省实验小学，办学条件都达到了江苏省现代化标准，各项设施均能满足教育教学需要。多年来，全市深入实施素质教育，艺术、科技、电脑、创造性绘画等特色教育普遍开展，成绩显著。溧阳少儿书法遐迩闻名，市实验小学以“教育就是服务”为办学理念，提倡一切为了孩子、为了一切孩子、为了孩子的一切，在社会上享有盛誉。全市现有初中专任教师1913名、小学专任教师2468名，在校初中生31925名、小学生44176名，100%的小学毕业生、97%以上的初中毕业生能够升入高一级学校就读。
溧阳的普高教育成绩显著。通过几年的调整、整合，全市高中教育资源得到了优化重组，实现了优势互补、资源共享。全市现有普通高级中学4所、完全中学3所，其中投资1.98亿元、占地18万多M2、总建筑面积9.2万M2的江苏省溧阳中学，是国家级示范高中、江苏省四星级高中。各高中学校各种现代化教学设施齐全，理化生实验室、语音实验室、心理咨询室、微机教室、网络教室、多媒体教室、科技活动室、电子阅览室、多功能阶梯教室、校园网主控室、闭路电视系统、办公自动化等管理系统基本配备到位。全市普高专任教师984名，在校学生14870人，高考总录取率达到93%以上，且历年都有大量学生在全国和省、市组织的学科竞赛中获奖，多名学生出版了个人作品集。
溧阳的职业教育特色鲜明。全市3所职业学校均属省级以上重点学校，总投入1.5亿元、占地23.9万余M2、总建筑面积9.4万多M2的市职业教育中心，是国家级示范职高，主要面向二产办学，集大专、中职、培训于一体；二职高以“农”字为特色，设置有园艺等专业；职业技术学校重点面向第三产业办学。全市各职业学校以培养高素质的劳动者和实用型人才为宗旨，以市场为导向，以就业为目标，以“订单式”培养为模式，加强与行业、企业和用人单位的合作，形成了灵活、多样、开放的职业教育机制。全市职高专任教师505名，在校生10460人，毕业生工考中级工达级率和当年就业率都在99%以上，对口高考达线率历年都位居全省前列，为地方经济与社会的发展提供了有力的人才资源保障。

The Liyang Municipal Government gives
a special and persistent priority for the development of
education, making the promotion of the human’s whole
development as aims; the bettering of the conditions of the
school as breakthrough point; the educational modernization
and informationization as driving force. We give more
investments in education and a sustainable innovation is
under way and therefore the connotation of education is
wider than ever before. Now different degrees and all kinds
of education is going through a comprehensive, balanced and
harmonious development which forms a solid foundation for a
fairly perfect educational system. At present, the number of
different schools totals 87 with 101,431 students and over
7,200 teaching staff. The number of the demonstration
schools covers 60% of the total number. The regional
educational modernization level comes out in front in
Jiangsu Province.
Liyang City’s Pre-school Education Develops Rapidly The
city’s pre-school teaching staff loves their job and
progresses every day. They shoulder the responsibilities of
developing the pre-school children’s good behaviors and
cultivating their potentials. We explore every means of
collecting funds and various ways of running kindergartens
and have formed our own standardized, high-quality and
distinguishing pre-school children’s education system. There
are altogether 26 kindergartens of all kinds with the number
of 16,050 children. There are 18 kindergartens including the
City’s Experimental Kindergarten and Zhuze Center
Kindergarten which are regarded as “Demonstration
Experimental Kindergarten of Jiangsu Province”. The
universality of the pre-school education of the city has
been over 96% since the year of 2001.
Liyang City’s Compulsory Education Shares a High Level
We have a balanced development in our compulsory education
on the basis of our overall arrangements for funds
allocation, facilities construction and teachers
appointments. We now have 41 primary schools, 33 secondary
schools including 2 9-year-round experimental school, an
Adolescent Sports School. There are 8 secondary schools like
Liyang City’s Yanshan Secondary School and Nandu Secondary
School which are awarded as Demonstration Secondary School
of Educational Modernization in Jiangsu Province; there are
15 primary schools like Liyang City’s Experimental Primary
School and Zhuze Primary School being up to the Jiangsu
provincial modernization standard which can meet all kinds
of the teaching needs. For years, we have been putting the
emphasis on quality-oriented education and have achieved
great development in distinctive education such as arts,
science technology, computer programs and innovative
painting. The achievements in children’s calligraphy and
painting are well-known far and near. Liyang City’s
Experimental Primary School advocates the idea of “Education
means service” and is very popular for its practice of “all
is for children, for all the children, and for children’s
all”. At present we have 1,913 and 2,468 professional
teachers in secondary schools and primary schools
respectively. We now have 31,925 secondary school students
and 44,176 primary school students. 100% of primary school
graduates and 97% of secondary school graduates can go to
higher school to study.
Liyang City’s Common High School’s Education is Remarkable
After many years’ adjustment and reorganization, the high
schools in Liyang city can pool their educational resources
better. We now have 4 common high schools and 3 complete
middle schools. Liyang High School of Jiangsu Province,
which costs 198,000,000 Yuan RMB of investment and covers an
area of over 180,000 square meters with a total construction
area of 92,000 square meters, is a national demonstration
high school and 4-star high school in Jiangsu Province. The
modern teaching facilities in all high schools are complete.
The physics lab, the chemistry lab, the biology lab, the
sound lab, the psychological consultant office, the computer
classroom, the net classroom, the multi-media classroom, the
science and technology classroom, the electronic
reading-room, the multi-function step classroom, the school
net monitoring office, the closed-circuit television system
and automatic office are all available in the schools. At
present, we have 984 professional high school teachers and
14,870 high school students in our city. The rate of
student’s admission to university is over 93%. A number of
students were awarded a prize in different national,
provincial or municipal competitions every year. Many
students have published a book of their own writings.
Liyang City’s Vocational Education is Distinctive The city’s
3 vocational Schools are all provincial key school. The
City’s Vocational Education Center, which costs an
investment of 150,000,000 Yuan RMB and covers an area of
over 239,000 square meters with a total construction area of
over 94,000 square meters, is a national demonstration
vocational high school. It gathers training college,
vocational high school and training school together. The
Second Vocational High School is characterized by
agriculture which has gardening as a major for the students.
The vocational technology schools conduct schooling for the
needs of the third industry. They aim at educating
high-quality laborer and practical talents and are guided by
the market and employment. They strengthen their cooperation
with all industries and enterprises which forms flexible,
various and open training codes according to the market
needs. There are 505 professional teachers and 10,460
students in schools. The rate of passing the medium-degree
worker exams and the rate of employment are both over 99%.
The rate of the students’ reaching the admission line to the
university also ranks top in the whole province. All the
above mentioned has laid a solid foundation for the
development of the society and the local economy and has
guaranteed a rich supply of people of talent.
At the time, Liyang education system is striving after a
higher scale with a greater inspiration, a stronger sense of
innovation and a more engaged spirit.
